Helical Anchors

Helical Anchors

Blue Iron has performed design build helical (screw) piles both for tension and compression foundation systems.  The lead segment of the helical pile is equipped with the helical plates welded to the shaft of the pile and the load is transferred from the plates to the soil to create a foundation system.  After the lead section is screwed into the native soil additional shaft only segments are typically bolted together to get the helical sections to the depths required by the design.

More info on helical anchors

Helical anchor segments range from 3 to 10 feet, depending on the constraints of the project.   Once the pile has achieved the designed elevation or torque, a header plate is placed onto the pile and becomes part of the new foundation.

The major benefits of Helical Anchors used for foundation systems include but are not limited to:

  • Helical piles and equipment require little overhead clearance as they are installed in segments that can be design at lengths required for the project.
  • Helical piles are installed by screwing them into the native ground and is typically completed with minimal noise and no vibration.
  • Small equipment can be used for installation which makes for cost savings on equipment and transport of traditional foundation equipment.
  • Helical piles can be easily modified in length to accommodate changing ground conditions.

Featured Projects

Flood Wall Sheet Pile

Naples Island Seawall Repair

A Giken Silent Piler was used in the installation of a new seawall, without disturbing residents of nearby multi-million dollar homes.

Levee Reinforcement

Trabuco Creek Channel

This levee reinforcement project necessitated use of a Giken Eco 1400 and Auger Crush due to nearby structures and ground composition.

I-HOP Drainage Collapse

IHOP Drainage Collapse

Blue Iron was commissioned to stabilize a collapsed hillside next to a newly opened IHOP restaurant using press-in steel sheeting.
